View upstream to Mother Rapid and soaring limestone walls of canyon

Mother rapid was formed by rocks and other debris washed out of Yahoo Gulch, which is the gulch just in sunlight on the left in this image. Earliest Stanislaus outfitter Bryce Whitmore apparently named it on Mother’s Day in 1963, according to “Guide to Three Rivers”.
