Late 1800s rock walls at Chinese Camp

Chinese Camp got its name from the likelihood that Chinese miners worked here after the initial decade or two of the Gold Rush.  The early miners got the easily available gold from panning and some sluicing, but it fell heavily to the Chinese laborers to move rock to uncover more gold – the walls here were stacked up so provide pathways along the excavation. Those who camped at the two sites here (Upper and Lower) could wander through a couple hundred feet of these walls, imagining the effort it took to create them.
