Don’t try this at home – bridge diving at Camp Nine!

For the few hardy souls who did this, the dive is captured beautifully here by Ty Childress who got it at the arc of this bold move off the old Camp Nine Bridge, into the waters just above the put in.  Ty writes:  “It was my childhood friend, Curtis Chang. His dad taught me tennis (in Palo Alto). I introduced him to Bryce Whitmore and Martin Litton. He was Grand Canyon Dories’ area manager in Idaho for many years.”  Sue Knaup (Brooks) adds:  “I did it most trips. One time a ranger came marching onto the bridge as I stood on the top rail ready to dive, yelling at me that it was not allowed. I waited until she was right below me, then launched.”  Who says guides don’t know how to have fun!?
