David Kay, shown here at a conference in the early 1970s, was a brilliant and passionate advocate for the Stanislaus River. He was a co-founder of Friends of the River and led early efforts to petition the federal government to step away from the New Melones Dam project. As the chief marketer for river outfitter ARTA, he was familiar with making the case for the importance of wilderness and nature generally. Learn more about David.
