Jerry Meral 1974 op-ed about saving the Stanislaus River (downloadable PDF)

Jerry Meral was working for the Environmental Defense Fund in 1974 and devoting much time to arguments and efforts to save the Stanislaus River. This op-ed in the San Francisco Examiner is a thorough recitation of the reasons to not fill New Melones Dam, coming just after US courts ruled that an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) that the U.S. Council on Environmental Quality (part of the White House) said was inadequate was sufficient to continue construction of New Melones Dam.
