Old school rafting – bailing with a cut-off plastic bottle

Status: Live River
By: Unknown
Date: July 10, 1971
Description:

Before self-bailing rafts, anything that could scoop out and toss water was prized in rafting.  Five gallon buckets where the gold standard but often hard to find (and clean!) in the early 1970s, but milk, bleach and other similar one gallon plastic containers could be trimmed at the bottom and used for smaller scoops. They also made fine water-fighting tools for close in exchanges!
