Update on SB 1482 in Feb. 1976 (PDF)

This very good two page FOR memo provides the overall context for Senator Peter Behr’s SB 1482, which would have placed the Stanislaus River in the State Wild & Scenic System (the bill failed to pass). Included is a review of the Proposition 17 experience, the July 1975 massive letter writing campaign to Gov. Brown, a major FOR rally at the State Capitol in September 1975, and the subsequent efforts around trying to get Gov. Brown to push for not including funding for New Melones Dam in federal appropriations (not successful). All of this sets the stage for the SB 1482 battle in early 1976.
